Traffic Management Implementation Program
RIIWHS302E
Our Traffic Management Implementation (TMI) Course provides the essential skills and knowledge to set up, monitor, and close down Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGSs) in line with Queensland’s Transport and Main Roads (TMR) requirements.
This course is ideal for individuals responsible for implementing traffic management plans, including installing and removing signs and devices according to the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) Part 3 and AUSTROADS guidelines.
This nationally recognised training program develops the practical and theoretical skills required to:
Read, interpret, and implement traffic management plans
Set out and monitor traffic guidance schemes
Manage worksite safety and communication
Close down and clean up work areas safely
The course combines theory-based learning, simulated practical activities, and on-the-job experience to prepare you for real-world implementation.
Formal Training: 1 day (up to 9 supervised hours)
Includes theory training and assessment
Informal Training:
Simulated practicals: Minimum of 2 class set-ups completed on the same day as the assessment
On-the-job component: Minimum of 3 live site set-ups verified by third-party reports
Students must satisfactorily complete three site set-ups to be deemed competent.
Typical completion timeframe is 3 months, with extensions of up to 1 additional month considered in extenuating circumstances (documentation required).
Upon successful completion, students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following units:
There are no formal pre-requisites for RIIWHS302E and RIIRIS301E.
However, all participants must:
Hold a General Construction Induction Training (GCIT/White Card) before starting practical training
Complete a site-specific induction before undertaking on-the-job components
Have language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills at ACSF Level 2
RPL is available for the on-the-job component for participants with verifiable experience implementing traffic management plans or similar tasks in live work environments.
All off-the-job training components must still be completed in full.
Upon successful completion of both course components and TMR’s Working in Proximity to Traffic (WPT) Parts 1 and 2, students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:
RIIWHS302E – Implement traffic management plan
RIIRIS301E – Apply risk management processes
To be issued with a Traffic Management Implementation (TMI) Card, students must also provide evidence of completing TMR’s Working in Proximity 1 and 2 eLearning modules.
