The Standard 11 (S11 / Generic Induction) is the essential induction required to work on surface coal and metalliferous mine sites in Queensland.

This course covers six nationally recognised units of competency, as required by the Queensland Mining Safety Inspectorate, and equips you with the knowledge and skills to safely operate in surface mining environments.

Assessment & Outcome

All assessments are completed online. This includes:

  • Theory knowledge quizzes for each unit
    • Each assessment allows up to 3 attempts. For theory quizzes, each attempt builds on the last, so you will only need to re-answer the questions you got wrong.
    • Theory quizzes must be completed before you attend or book your practical session.
  • A practical assessment (completed online in a trainer-led workshop session)
    • All practical templates and submissions are completed online in the assessment form during or after your practical session. Your trainer will provide instructions on when and how to complete and submit each section.

Upon successful completion of both steps, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the Standard 11 Surface units.
