Course Overview

Designed specifically for mining and quarrying industry professionals, the G2 Risk Facilitator Course equips participants with the practical knowledge and skills required to effectively facilitate and apply risk management processes in real-world operational environments.

Participants will learn how to identify hazards, assess and evaluate risks, implement appropriate controls, and monitor and review risk management outcomes. The course focuses on embedding risk management into everyday work practices, supporting safer operations, stronger compliance, and improved business performance.

Upon successful completion of this nationally accredited online training program, participants will gain the skills and knowledge required to undertake the roles of a Mine Safety and Health Representative or Mine Supervisor, and perform the duties associated with these positions.

Delivered fully online and self-paced, the course provides flexibility to study anytime, anywhere, on any device, allowing participants to balance training with operational and personal commitments.

Units of Competency

G1, G8, G9:

  • RIIRIS301E – Apply risk management processes
  • RIIWHS301E – Conduct safety and health investigations
  • RIICOM301E – Communicate information

G2:

  • RIIRIS402E – Carry out the risk management process
Assessment

All assessments are completed online and include a combination of:

  • Knowledge-based questions
  • Short response activities
  • Practical assessment tasks

Key assessment details:

  • Up to three attempts per assessment task
  • All questions must be answered correctly to be deemed competent
  • Proctoring is required during assessments (learning content is not proctored)

Practical Assessment Requirements:

This course includes practical assessment activities involving role-play scenarios.
Participants are required to source three (3) suitable volunteers (e.g. workplace colleagues) with experience in the mining or quarrying industry.

  • Practical tasks must be video recorded for assessment purposes
  • All volunteers must consent to being recorded
Course Validity and Refreshers
  • The refresher period for mining units is five (5) years
  • Shorter refresher periods may apply where required by site, company, or industry standards

This course meets requirements under:

  • Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 – Division 2, Section 56
  • Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 – Division 2, Section 51
Outcome

On successful completion, students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) for:

G1, G8, G9:

  • RIIRIS301E – Apply risk management processes
  • RIIWHS301E – Conduct safety and health investigations
  • RIICOM301E – Communicate information

G2:

  • RIIRIS402E – Carry out the risk management process

This qualification supports statutory compliance and demonstrates competency in facilitating workplace risk management processes within mining and quarrying operations.

Trainer Support

Participants are supported throughout the course by experienced trainers.

For faster feedback, participants are encouraged to submit assessments or questions before Thursday each week.

RPL/RCC

In some cases, students may possess skills and or knowledge in the course content. CCT will assess your eligibility for RPL/RCC. Information on RPL/RCC can be found in the CCT student handbook, on our website or by contacting our office.

Entry Requirements

To enrol in this course, participants must provide:

  • A clear copy of a current driver’s licence or other photo identification.
  • Evidence of sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy skills to complete course assessments.
  • Access to a device with an internet connection and basic computer skills, as the course is delivered fully online.
  • A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI), which is required for all nationally recognised (accredited) training. If you don’t have one, you can apply online at www.usi.gov.au
