Traffic Controller Training Program

Course Overview

Our Traffic Controller Course is designed for individuals seeking to develop the skills and knowledge required to safely control traffic using a stop-slow bat in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries. This course equips you with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to confidently manage traffic in various worksite environments.

In this one-day, hands-on course, you’ll learn how to:

  • Plan and prepare for traffic control tasks

  • Control traffic safely and effectively

  • Operate communication devices (radios)

  • Clean up and secure your worksite

You will participate in face-to-face training, applied learning in a simulated environment, and complete assessments to demonstrate your competency.

Mandatory Workplace Training:

  • Minimum 20 supervised logbook hours at approved worksites

  • Students have up to 3 months to complete their practical requirements

Before starting practical work, students must:

  1. Present their General Construction Induction Training (GCIT) card

  2. Complete a site-specific induction

Course Duration

1 day (up to 9 hours) – theory, practical simulation, and assessment

Units of Competency

Upon successful completion, students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following units:

  • RIIWHS205E – Traffic Controller Training Program
  • RIIWHS201E – Work Safely and Follow Workplace Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
  • RIICOM201E – Communicate in the Workplace
Pre-Requisites

To enrol in this course, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Hold a current White Card (or equivalent)

  • Hold a current Australian or foreign provisional/open driver licence within the last five years

  • Meet all medical fitness and suitability criteria as per the Traffic Controller Accreditation Scheme

  • Provide evidence of identity and complete a criminal history check

  • High-visibility long sleeve shirt
  • Long pants
  • Work boots
  • Hard hat
  • Food (fridges available onsite)

All training equipment, stationery, tea, and coffee are provided.
