Course Overview

Standard 11 (also called S11 or Generic Induction) is the mandatory induction course you must complete to work on surface coal and metaliferous mine sites in Queensland.

Our full in-person Standard 11 course combines the latest theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical training, ensuring you graduate ready for work with the skills required for safe operations on mine sites.

Units of Competency

On successful completion, you will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment covering six units:

• RIIWHS201E – Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
• RIIERR205D – Apply initial response first aid
• RIIGOV201E – Comply with site work processes and procedures
• RIIRIS201E – Conduct local risk control
• RIICOM201E – Communicate in the workplace
• RIIERR302E – Respond to local emergencies and incidents

Course Delivery & Duration

This full in-person course is delivered face-to-face over 1 day, combining interactive theory and practical training.

What to expect:

1. Trainer-led theory sessions: Learn essential concepts about mine safety, hazard identification, risk control, emergency response, and site procedures.

2. Hands-on practical exercises: Complete real-world scenarios under the guidance of your Trainer Assessor to demonstrate workplace competence.

Assessment:

• Practical tasks and scenarios

• Knowledge checks and quizzes during training

You must pass both the theory and practical components to successfully complete the course.

Nil.

Entry Requirements

To enrol in the full in-person Standard 11 course, you must:

• Be at least 18 years of age

• Provide valid photo ID (driver’s licence or passport)

• Have enclosed shoes for practical training sessions

• Meet minimum language, literacy, and numeracy requirements for assessment

• Hold a Unique Student Identifier (USI) — if you don’t have one, we can assist with your application
