
Traffic Management Renewal Program
RIIWHS302E (Renewal)
To continue working as a Traffic Management Implementation (TMI) Officer in Queensland, you must complete an approved TMI Renewal Training Program before your accreditation expires.
This course ensures you remain familiar with MUTCD Part 3, AUSTROADS guidelines, and any recent updates to road rules and traffic management procedures.
The Traffic Management Implementation Renewal Course updates and revalidates your skills in implementing, monitoring, and closing down Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGSs).
You’ll review essential concepts, apply updated safety principles, and demonstrate your ongoing industry competence through written and practical assessments.
The program includes the following nationally recognised units of competency:
RIIWHS302E – Implement traffic management plans
RIIRIS301E – Apply risk management processes
To successfully complete this course, students must:
Demonstrate knowledge of traffic management implementation procedures
Provide evidence of at least three years of on-the-job experience
Complete trainer observations, written assessments, and a group case study
Formal Training: 1 full day (up to 9 supervised hours)
Plan and prepare for risk management
Assess and identify unacceptable risk
Review and contribute to risk management documentation
Identify and recommend control measures
Implement and monitor controls
Plan and prepare to implement traffic management plans
Set out, monitor, and close down traffic guidance schemes
Clean up and finalise worksite documentation
Upon successful completion, students will receive:
Statements of Attainment for:
RIIWHS302E – Implement traffic management plans
RIIRIS301E – Apply risk management processes
A wallet-sized accreditation card valid for three years
To continue working on Queensland roads, a renewal must be completed before the date of expiry.
Students must:
Hold a current RIIWHS302E qualification
Hold a current Queensland Traffic Management Implementation (TMI) Card
Provide evidence of completing TMR’s eLearning programs – Working in Proximity to Traffic Parts 1 & 2
Submit a completed COIP form with supporting evidence prior to enrolment
RPL is available for the on-the-job component for participants with verifiable experience implementing traffic management plans or similar tasks in live work environments.
All off-the-job training components must still be completed in full.
Upon successful completion of both course components and TMR’s Working in Proximity to Traffic (WPT) Parts 1 and 2, students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:

RIIRIS301E – Apply risk management processes
To be issued with a Traffic Management Implementation (TMI) Card, students must also provide evidence of completing TMR’s Working in Proximity 1 and 2 eLearning modules.
Accreditation is valid for three years from the date of completion. To continue working on Queensland roads, a renewal course must be completed before the expiry date.
